US mobile phone company Cingular has come up with an Escape A Date service. An example message, from their press release launching the service shows how it works:
Hey, this is your escape-a-date call. If you’re looking for an excuse, I got it. Just repeat after me, and you’ll be on your way! “Not again! Why does that always happen to you? … Alright, I’ll be right there.” Now tell ’em that your roommate got locked out, and you have to go let them in. Good luck!Yahoo! Business
Given the new dynamics of dating through applications and websites, this service makes a lot of sense. It’s clever and is a rare example of customer-centric thinking by a mobile network operator. Cingular Wireless became AT&T Wireless in October 2004. More on wireless related issues here.
