On The Sofa: Dai Guard

Ever watchful to guard against chavs

Dai Guard is a computer drawn anime series with a familar theme. Slacker and friends repeatedly save Tokyo from under sea creatures by piloting giant Gundam-type robot. I find the computer developed anime garish, the block colours seem harsher and flatter than work by the likes of Production IG. Up to this point, Dai Guard is standard Japanese TV fodder.

Where Dai Guard gets interesting is the way the series approximates the penny-pinching and bureaucracy that bedevils large organisations and the Japanese government. Expenses committees meet to discuss the cost of operating the robot and how much it will cost to speedily evacuate citizens - in what only can be construed as savage satire.

From a technology perspective this site like so many others is powered by WordPress and supercharged with caffiene. It looks minimalist, yet aesthetically pleasing thanks to a slightly tweaked version of DePo Skinny Theme designed by the talented Mr Powazek. The site is hosted on a grid service by the clever people at Media Temple (mt).
