Some of my friends live in Tooting (after Balham on the Northern Line) and they introduced me to The Selkirk. The pub is a few minutes walk from Tooting Broadway underground station. The pub is based just off the rather unpromising high street with its fried chicken restaurants and, Lidl supermarket and Primark clothes shop. It is a neighbourhood pub for young professionals falling somewhere between a gastro pub and the ‘It’s a Scream’ student pubs, which isn’t to say that is a bad thing.
You get decent food which doesn’t cost the earth in nice surroundings from noon to 9pm and during the evening they have live music and DJ sets. There is some nice quirks to the place, like the daily weather forecast at the bottom of the daily menu. There is a friendly non-pretentious vibe in there, though getting a seat for drink on a Saturday night can be a struggle as it is a popular drinking establishment.
