Hairspray is playing in the west end of London. The candy-coloured play is completely at odds with the utilitarian and slightly sinister feel of NCP car parks, kind of like a shopping mall for criminals. They are not the most welcoming places for people coming from out of town to see a play in London.
However NCP has teamed up with Hairspray to bring a bit of candy-coloured brightness to its car park just off Holborn on Museum Street.
The hazard yellow signage and concrete innards have been spruced up: a weird but effective mash-up between brutalist design and kitsch. Its a nice bit of lateral thinking.
