Jargon Watch: sandwich generation

I came across this term when the South China Morning Post wrote an article about the findings of an Economist Intelligence Unit report about how people from different countries in East Asia handled caring for children and old relatives. The sandwich generation was defined as:

…people caught between competing demands of caring both for their children and parents, said they were struggling to cope with the financial burden.
