P&G, Google and the modern man

Whilst surfing the web looking for instructions on cooking, I came across Man Of The House, a site set up by digital agency Proximity for P&G who realised that when it came to women’s work in the house men tend to turn to Google to find out things like how to boil an egg, recipes [...]

Fine Gael, hacking and Anonymous

On January 9, the website of Fine Gael, an Irish political party was hacked and the identities of 2,000 subscribers to the site were exposed. The party is in opposition in the Irish parliament and has been for the past 13 or so years. From an agenda standpoint, Fine Gael espouses a type of conservativism [...]

I like: Burton vs Casio N-03C cell phone

Although not known for cell phones in the UK, Casio sells rugged water-proof handsets in Japan and North America. Drawing on expertise gained making G-Shock watches Casio turns out aesthetically pleasing clamshell handsets. The N-03C is the latest handset in the series and comes in ‘Burton white’. The fit with extreme sports brand makes sense [...]

A Starbucks perspective

In central London Starbucks are as plentiful as traditional pubs used to be. I refuel there topping up my caffeine level, use them as a meeting venue for suppliers and as an initial rendezvous point to meet with friends. This is all very utilitarian and probably not the kind of third space that Starbucks likes [...]

On the sofa: Love And Other Drugs | 电影审查

I got to see Love And Other Drugs which was a surprisingly adult (for Hollywood anyway) romantic comedy with a good ensemble of actors.  Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway give great performances but the real joy is supporting characters played by Hank Azaria as a corrupt doctor, Lilly Pharmaceuticals super-salesman Gabriel Macht and Oliver Plat [...]

Communications, language and the Detroit Motor Show

I was watching coverage of the Detroit Motor Show on CNN whilst eating breakfast. There were a number initiatives shown by car manufacturers that integrated internet communications, technology and the driving experience in new cars. This all makes sense, in many respects car manufacturers are transport service providers rather than box-shifters. Most cars in many [...]

Goldvish phones

I’ve come across some blinged up things in my time but this Gold Vish phone at Seibu in the Pacific Place shopping centre in Hong Kong took bling to a new level. Gold Vish manage to make Vertu phones look subtle and understated.

When beta is a bad thing

I have been using Feedburner for a long time. According to the ‘all time’ data section my first hook-up of my blog’s RSS feed to my account was October 10, 2004. Which in internet years makes my feed an elder statesmen of the web a Sir Trevor McDonald of feeds. Feedburner did a good job [...]

Oprah Time: Digital advertising: past, present and future edited by Daniele Fiandaca & Patrick Burgoyne | 书评

I decided to read Digital Advertising: past present and future because of the way that online has shaken up the way agencies do work. From a PR point-of-view, we no longer have to interact with the media (be they journalists, analysts or other influentials) but can instead break the communications ‘fourth wall’ and address the [...]

Great ambient advertising: 3M Post-Its

I came across this ambient opportunity around recycle bins at an MTR station. The level of ‘green’ in the campaign even goes down the execution. Rather than the usual vinyl wrap, the advertising is a cardboard collar around the bins.
