Whole earth hurricane

When I first saw this picture on the NASA Goddard Flickr account I was struck by its similarity to the famous shot on the front of the Whole Earth catalog – which turned into a counterculture icon and a rallying point for the modern environmental movement. The key difference in this case is the distinct swirl about three quarters of the way up the picture which is Hurricane Irene in full flow.
