Workplace dichotomies were highlighted in a LinkedIn poll that I came across. It asked respondents how they got their current role?
Now given that response to the poll, has a small data set of 291 at the time of writing this post, the respondents were self-selecting and the fact that it was on a business social network you may want to take the results with a pinch of salt, but it did raise some interesting points for me:
- Whilst women use the web much more for socialising and generally have better social skills, why wasn’t this reflected in the way they secured new jobs?
- Are women a barrier to employing other women in a role?
- If you need to meet a ‘gender quota’ of women, recruiters and word-of-mouth wouldn’t be as effective as advertising the role if the poll data was to be believed
