Conrad Hotel Beijing
Boutique Chinese architecture firm MAD are designing the Conrad Hotel Beijing that has an organic feel to its external design which looks like a copse of trees. MAD talk about this pattern as being similar to the layout of nerves, which is a bit creepy. Especially in the capital city of an authoritarian technocratic regime like the Communist Party of China.
Organic and modernistic
I really liked the idea of mixed organic and modernistic lines in the design. There are hints of art nouveau with its mix of organic and regular lines. It provides a new design language in place of the usual heritage that one expects in luxury hotels like the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong or The Ritz Hotel in London.
