Throwback Track: Julian ‘Jumpin’ Perez – Relight my fire

The original Dan Hartman track with Vertigo on the front end can be a bit difficult to put in a mix, so when Julian Perez (who joined the Hot Mix 5 in 1984) it became a staple in DJ crates. It was played at all the big clubs when it came out: The Hacienda, Shellys in Stoke, The Quadrant Park.  And continued to be played long afterwards as a floor filler.

One friend who shall remain nameless heard it at a wedding, he went up and spoke to the wedding DJ who told him it was a ‘yank cover version of that great Take That single with Lulu‘.

The original picture sleeve version of the single had Perez on the front cover sporting a mullet with a band of flame across the bottom of the sleeve outlining a female torso in a sub-James Bond film titles kind of way. This has to go down as one of the worst record sleeve designs ever.
