This is what online video used to look like before YouTube

Back in the early noughties before YouTube; Apple’s QuickTime video trailers and music videos provided a kind of proto-video service. The pictures where bigger than the postage-stamped size clips that Real Player used to do. Apple had bought a minority share in content delivery network Akamai a year after it had launched in 1999.

This experience helped Apple built out iTunes business with to this day relies on Akamai technology to deliver content.
