Out and about: Concrete café & bar

A trip to the Hayward Gallery is as much about the building as the contents of the exhibition in question, an though I enjoyed the Ed Ruscha exhibition, I spent much of the time enjoying the wooden mould relief that covers the concrete of the building both inside and out. It is a weird mix of modernism and organic.

Needing a caffiene infusion once I finished the exhibition so I retired to the Concrete café & bar attached to the gallery. From the very name of the place it celebrates the Hayward Gallery itself.

Concrete bar & restaurant - Southbank Centre

The café has a character all of its own from the vintage Tonka dumper truck for a fruit bowl to home-made toasted sandwiches that are to-die for.

The café would be alright for a quiet catch-up, or a bit of quiet reading time. I don’t think that they have wi-fi there, but the cell phone reception was good on both Vodafone and O2.
