Reading Time: 2 minutes

Things that have made my day over the past two weeks:

  • Iittila Ultima Thule glassware – I first came across these flying with Finnair and they are a wonder of product design. Designed by Tapio Wirkkala in the 1960s after being inspired by the melting ice in Lapland. The surface patterns gradually change as the glass burns the surface of the wooden moulds. Iittila apparently spent thousands of hours perfecting the glass-blowing technique for these glasses

  • Korean TV channel OCN provided me with respite from CNN when I had downtime in Korea. It’s non-stop CSI episodes and English language films was far superior to the likes of 5USA
  • I enjoyed lunch earlier today with Alice and Alex at Hôp Namô in the new Box Park opposite the Tea Building. The restaurant is reasonably priced and more casual than the Pho chain of restaurants but still does a very passable Vietnamese coffee
  • I have given Kakao Talk a chance again and this time it has proved to be much less sluggish in terms of its performance, although it could learn a lot in user experience design from Tencent’s Weixin
  • An especially big shout to American Express whose card worked perfectly whilst I was traveling in contrast to MasterCard, where I had to phone up my credit card provider each time I wanted to use the card to get it to work as a security precaution. It was like the difference between a Mac (Amex) and a PC (MasterCard)
