frogdesign were exploring new form factors for a modern stereo and went back to the future taking inspiration from the reel-to-reel tape deck.
Until digital recording media became commonplace, quality audio recording mean’t using a magnetic tape recorder, from quality stereo recordings to studio multitrack machines – all of them used reels of tape (the wider the tape, the more information that could be written on it). The faster the tape went through the machine, the higher the quality the recording.
frogdesign simplified the form of the reel-to-reel design breaking it back to the basics. What would have been the tape head became the dock for the iPod and behind the reels are a set of speakers.
