Five for Friday | 五日(星期五)

Things that have made my day this week:

  • thetrainline iPhone application which saved my bacon when I thought that I had lost one of my ticket emails with the reference number for the machine
  • Tencent’s Weichat that allowed me to keep in contact with my colleague Roland in Beijing, sometimes email just isn’t any good so you need more informal channels. Weichat is probably the best of the next-generation messaging applications like Viper and Kakao Talk
  • Some of the tenuous email marketing offers based around jubilee sales made it easy to set up a quick spam rule on my email client
  • Wes Anderson’s latest film Moonrise Kingdom was a beautifully observed farce, I love the mid-century product design and the soundtrack featuring Leonard Bernstein, Alexandre Desplat and Benjamin Britten
  • I watched the last two episodes of The Bridge when I was too tired to work anymore and was gobsmacked how they managed to maintain the tension and make such a stylish looking thriller
