Xin chào and welcome to the Vietnam category of this blog. This is where I share anything that relates to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, business issues relating to Vietnam, the Vietnamese people or culture. Often posts that appear in this category will appear in other categories as well. So if internet gaming company VNG launched a new advertising campaign. And that I thought was particularly interesting or noteworthy, that might appear in marketing as well as Vietnam.

So far, I haven’t had too much Vietnam related content here, though I recognise that it is a fast growing and important market in Asia.

I don’t tend to comment on local politics because I don’t want to get into debates on the merits of communism, but I am interested when it intersects with business. An example of this would be legal issues affecting the media sector for instance.

The country’s relationship with the Mekong river makes the place pretty unique. It also has an amazing coffee culture and is home to some of the world’s best coffee growing areas.

The country has become a manufacturing power house and offers a slightly better governance model than the equivalent Communist Party of China.

Vietnam has a complex history and relationships with the country’s neighbours including Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and China. They fought a border war with China in 1979, when China invaded in an unwarranted act of aggression against the Vietnamese people. Vietnam still bears the brunt of Chinese aggression in places like the South China sea
