Hong Kong is best third party Data Centers APAC location | TelecomAsia – Hong Kong is the No. 1 location in Asia Pacific when it comes to suitability for setting up new and outsourced data centers, according to IDC. Based on IDC’s Data Center Index for Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan), Singapore and Taiwan are second and third placed respectively, based mainly on bandwidth availability and energy costs. Note that this assessment of data center location doesn’t feature future regulatory risk or security considerations. Hong Kong basic law can be amended by the Chinese government. The available bandwidth availability for data centers in Hong Kong is largely down to the financial services sector. I am surprised that the Philippines wasn’t considered a good location for third party data centers due to it being a landing point for cross Pacific optical fibre and a distribution point for east Asia.
